The Belle turns 99!

October 17, 2013

Louisville, KY:  Come celebrate the Belle of Louisville’s 99th birthday on her party cruise, Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sightseeing tickets are available, and there will be birthday cake for all!

Ninety-nine years is a significant milestone – no other boats of her type lasted nearly as long! The Belle is the last authentic steamboat in operation in the United States; pure steam powered, paddlewheel propelled, with no modern navigation equipment, she operates as she did in 1914.  A ride on the Belle is like a step back in time.

Then the real countdown begins to her 100th birthday in October 2014. From October 14-19, 2014, the Belle and eight of her sister riverboats will provide the backdrop for the Centennial Festival of Riverboats, as Louisville plays host to a historic six-day festival of art, Bourbon, music and culture at Waterfront Park. Festival-goers will be able to enjoy live music, sample the finest spirits in the world and experience history, first-hand, while celebrating the Belle’s 100th birthday and all that life on the river has to offer.

Public tickets for the Festival of Riverboats went on sale last week and can be purchased on the Festival’s website, www.festivalofriverboats.com.  Volunteer opportunities are also available. This will be a once in a lifetime event for a once in a lifetime steamboat!

Sightseeing tickets for this Sunday’s 99th birthday party are available online at www.belleoflousiville.com; by calling the ticket office at 574-2992; or just come on down to the wharf at her 1:30 boarding, purchase tickets and get onboard.
