engineer assistant
Essential Functions
Assists in the operations to maintain propulsion boiler burner system, repairs and performing preventative maintenance of all mechanical systems throughout the facility and aboard all vessels.
Examples of Work
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
- Operates and maintains propulsion boiler burner system.
- Under the supervision of the watch engineer, operates main engines in accordance with pilot house commands.
- Monitors pressure and temperature gauges and records data in engineering logs.
- Inspects and repairs or replaces piping for various systems, including those for steam, fuel, water, and sewage.
- Operates steam equipment, pumps, electric motors, and generators.
- Lubricates moving parts: steering gear, pumps, motors, bearings, shafts, and steam cylinders for propulsion.
- Cleans and degreases equipment, including main engines, generators, pumps, and motors.
- Conducts boiler water chemical tests and adds chemicals designated by watch engineer.
- Connects and disconnects shore power and potable water.
- Assists crew in transfer of fuel from supply truck to vessel.
- Assists in winterizing vessel systems.Operates, maintains, and repairs vessel HVAC systems.
- Cleans, paints, and polishes engine room equipment and spaces.
- Services company vehicles.
- Performs related work.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- No experience needed (will train).
- Carry loads up to 75 pounds
- Work from ladders, scaffolding, in confined spaces or over open waters
- Knowledge of HVAC systems, Diesel Mechanics, Plumbing, Electricity and or related fields are a PLUS.
Requirements
- Must work a varied schedule
- Must submit and pass a pre-employment and all required random drug screening.
- Must wear all appropriate PPEs as required by the USCG.
- Must be able to clearly communicate verbally with crew and passengers as required by USCG regulations
